Spotlight on judges: Insights from Pedro Cosa, Founder and Managing Director, Data Minds

As part of the Global Spotlight Awards 2026, the Spotlight on Judges Series introduces the experts behind the judging process, those shaping what excellence looks like across technology, AI, data, and cybersecurity.

In this edition, we speak with Pedro Cosa, Founder and Managing Director of Data Minds Consulting Ltd, whose perspective is shaped by extensive experience in data strategy, AI transformation, and organisational leadership.

Pedro Cosa is the Founder and Managing Director of Data Minds Consulting Ltd, a specialised advisory firm helping organisations unlock the full value of data and artificial intelligence at scale. The firm delivers consulting and advisory services across data strategy, AI and advanced analytics, data monetisation, and digital transformation across multiple industries.

He brings a strategic, commercially focused, and impact-driven perspective to the Global Spotlight Awards 2026 judging panel.

What does global excellence mean within your field today, and how does it relate to the mission of the Global Spotlight Awards 2026?

For me, global excellence in data and AI means delivering work that is not only technically strong but also useful, responsible, and scalable across different markets and business contexts. It is about creating measurable value, improving decision-making, and building solutions that can stand up to real-world complexity. That aligns closely with the mission of the Global Spotlight Awards, which is to recognise original work with clear impact and strong results.

What inspired you to join the Global Spotlight Awards 2026 judging panel, and what value do you believe you bring to the evaluation process?

I was attracted by the opportunity to help recognise work that is genuinely changing the way organisations use data and AI. I have spent many years building data functions, leading transformation, and advising executive teams, so I understand what separates a good idea from something that can truly deliver at scale. I believe I bring a balanced view of strategy, delivery, governance, and commercial value to the judging process.

From your perspective, how does data-driven transformation align with the mission of the Global Spotlight Awards 2026?

Data-driven transformation is at the heart of what the awards are trying to celebrate. The strongest submissions will not just show technology adoption, but show how data has changed behaviour, improved performance, and created value in a lasting way. In my experience, the best transformation work connects data directly to business goals, and that is exactly the kind of impact these awards should spotlight.

What separates incremental improvement from truly transformative innovation in data and AI strategy?

Incremental improvement usually makes an existing process a bit better. Transformative innovation changes how an organisation operates, competes, or serves its customers. In data and AI, that often means rethinking the operating model, the decision-making process, or the customer experience, rather than simply adding a new tool on top of the old one. The real test is whether the change creates durable value, not just short-term excitement.

How do you evaluate whether a solution demonstrates long-term value and scalability when judging global submissions?

I look for a few things: clear business outcomes, evidence of adoption, strong governance, and a design that can work across teams, regions, or use cases. A solution may be impressive in a pilot, but long-term value only exists if it can be embedded into the organisation and maintained over time. Scalability also depends on whether the approach is practical, secure, and aligned with how the business actually works.

How is AI reshaping the way organisations define excellence, innovation, and customer impact globally?

AI is raising expectations across the board. Excellence is no longer just about having data or analytics; it is about using intelligence well, at speed, and with accountability. Innovation is increasingly defined by how effectively organisations combine human judgement and machine capability, while customer impact is becoming more personalised, immediate, and measurable. The organisations that stand out will be those that use AI to make better decisions and deliver better experiences without losing trust.

Closing the Spotlight

Pedro Cosa’s perspective reflects a central theme across the Global Spotlight Awards 2026 judging panel: true innovation is defined by measurable impact, scalability, and real-world value.

His focus on data-driven transformation, commercial outcomes, and organisational change highlights the difference between theoretical capability and meaningful execution. As the awards continue to recognise leaders across AI, technology, data science, and cybersecurity, insights like these ensure the judging process remains grounded in substance and long-term impact.
